Funndamental Flat Pedals

The Funndamental pedals are equipped with a single bushing on the inner side and a 686 cartridge bearing (6mm x 13mm x 5mm) on the outer side.

The GRS port is a grease port in the pedal body that lets you push fresh grease into the bushing without stripping the pedal down. There is no fixed schedule — add grease whenever you notice more resistance as the pedal turns. Treat it as a top-up rather than a service: for the best life out of the pedal we still recommend a full strip and regrease every six months.

Light bicycle greases from Finishline, Muc-off, or Parktools are suitable. Apply the grease using a syringe for best results.

The 11 pins on each side thread in from either direction, so if a rock strike chews up the head of a pin you can back it out from the other side instead of drilling it out — which is the usual way a flat pedal ends up unserviceable. The pedals come with pins, washers and the tools to fit them, and spares are the Funndamental Pedal Pin Kit.

A metal body like the Funndamental's gives a stiffer platform, and the pins thread into aluminium, so a hard strike is less likely to tear a pin seat out. Composite bodies — the Taipan and the Black Magic — cost less and slide over rock rather than gouging, so scars matter less. Ride hard on rocky ground and want a pedal you can keep rebuilding? Go metal. If the budget leads, composite gives away very little.
